I feel that the job of a music producer is
to hard-wire the vision of the client into the heart of the listener.

Through my work, I have:
been signed to Island records,
played on international record releases,
enjoyed heavy rotation on national TV for
     award-winning commercial pieces, and have
had my music on both major and indie film releases.

Yet, what makes me compulsively curious
about the process of composition and production is that
the more I learn about it, the less I seem to know.

Every project I do reveals more mysteries than solutions.
When God is at work and the Devil is at play,
anything can make a piece successful or fall short.
Determination to keep working until it feels right is the only rule.
     Everything else is fair game.

But I do have my “tools”:
honing the material,
understanding the client, and
capturing heart-felt performances
     are essential.
The rest is spotting the magic when it happens,
and being there to catch it.

"Steve's vision going in to the Violet Wild album was so clear, and the recordings so well arranged, that when it came time to mix, the songs pretty much mixed themselves. Thats a great quality in a producer."
